ALICJA KWADE

Kwade's works often incorporate common materials, such as glass, metal, and stone, and she is known for her ability to transform these materials into unexpected and thought-provoking forms. Many of her sculptures and installations explore the nature of reality, time, and perception, and often involve optical illusions and perceptual trickery.

 

In addition to her sculptures and installations, Kwade has also created video works that explore similar themes, often using experimental techniques to create surreal and dreamlike narratives. Her works have been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums around the world, including the Venice Biennale, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan, and the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum in Berlin.

 

Kwade has received several awards and honors for her work, including the Hector Prize in 2015 and the Artist of the Year award from the Deutsche Bank in 2020. She has been praised for her ability to merge art and science, and her works have been described as both intellectually stimulating and visually striking.
